Beloomut is a centre of urban community of Beloomut, including the neibouring villages Kadanok, Mohovoe, Slemskie Borky. It's located in the Central Russia, the south-west part of Moscow Region.
In 17 century, when Beloomut began to figure as small fishing village, it also was divided into two part - Borkovskaya and Komarevskaya, after received names Low and High Beloomut. In 17-18 cent. village  was famous for its sturgeons and starlets which were delivered to the Tsar's family in Moscow. In the late 17 cent. young Peter the Great travelled down of the Oka. Once his ship sailed near the Beloomut's coast. And emperor saw an unusual white swirls in the water which he called "white pool" (in Russian "beliy omut"). May be it's only a beautiful legend, but people sincerely believe that the name of their home town dates back to it. It's interesting Beloomut of different time belonged to the different district-it was part of the Ryazan, Egoryevsk, Zaraysk. In 1834 High Beloomut became a property of best-known poet and revolutionary Nickolay Ogarev who in 1846 granted a freedom for his peasants, 15 years earlier than in other parts of Russia. In 1931 Beloomut was added to the Luhovitsky District. Nowadays it's rather big township.
